Important information

Will it be busy?

Yes, Lord Mayor’s Show Day is one of our busiest days of the year. If we need to limit access to the Cathedral, your Dome Galleries ticket will guarantee you entry.

What are the Dome Galleries?

Climb the stairs to the Whispering Gallery, enjoy dramatic views of our interior, both above and below, and test the gallery’s famous whispering walls for yourself.
Keep going to the Stone Gallery and see sweeping views over London and a host of landmarks.
Wind your way up the final spiral staircase to the Golden Gallery: the ultimate panoramic viewing spot.

How do I access them?

The Galleries can be accessed by stairs only. There are a total of 257 steps up to the Whispering Gallery, 376 steps up to the Stone Gallery and 528 steps (total) to the Golden Gallery. We recommend that those with pre-existing medical conditions, mobility difficulties or concerns with heights and confined spaces do not try to climb these stairs.

How about buggies, pushchairs and baby slings?

Unfortunately, we do not have cloakroom facilities to store buggies, prams and pushchairs, and these items cannot be taken to the Dome Galleries. We recommend front-worn baby carriers and slings.

Can I take photos?

We welcome visitor photography on our two external galleries – the Stone Gallery and Golden Gallery – but we ask that visitors do not take photos on the internal Whispering Gallery
